Setting the colours
Under Product Filters → Settings → Swatches Pro lists your attributes. Open one and edit a value: there is a colour field, Use a colour, and a picture field, Choose a picture. The colour and picture are saved with the attribute value, so every filter set that shows that attribute uses them.
A picture is used before a colour. A value with neither is drawn as a label, so nothing is left blank, and a size such as Large works as a swatch with its name in it.
Choosing swatches in a set
In a filter set, the filter for an attribute gets Swatches among its choices of Show as, and a setting for the shape, round or square. Nothing else about the filter changes: counts, hiding empty values and any-or-all still work.
What is under a swatch
A checkbox. The coloured square is what a shopper sees, but the box is there for the keyboard, for screen readers and for the form. Because it is still a checkbox, a swatch filter works without JavaScript and with the same addresses as any other display.
If Pro is deactivated
A filter that was set to swatches is drawn as checkboxes again. The colours stay saved with your attribute values, so activating Pro again brings the swatches back, and nothing was ever deleted. A lapsed licence does not take swatches away either; it stops updates and support, and that is all.
Swatches are one of the three things Pro adds, with SEO pages and filters per category. The pricing page has the list and the price.
