The problem it solves
A shop that sells shoes and jackets wants a shoe size on the shoe pages and no shoe size on jackets. With the free plugin you make one set per family and place each one where it belongs. With Pro you can keep a single set, and tell each filter where it is relevant.
How it works
In the filter set editor, each row gets a field Show only on these categories (none ticked: everywhere). Tick the categories, save, and the filter is drawn only where the page is one of them. The shop page itself is not a category, so a filter limited to categories does not show on it.
A filter that is not drawn is not counted either, so the page does less work. The other filters in the set are not affected.
Defaults that keep it safe
- no category ticked means the filter appears everywhere, so a new filter is never hidden by accident;
- a category that is later deleted is dropped from the list when the set is saved;
- if Pro is deactivated, every filter is shown everywhere again, and the ticks stay saved.
With the free plugin only
You can get the same result by making a set per product family and placing it with the shortcode on the matching pages. The auto parts guide shows how that looks in practice. Pro saves you from keeping several sets in step.
This is one of three things Pro adds, along with swatches and SEO pages. See what Pro costs, and what stops if you ever stop paying.
