What a chip is
A link. Its address is the current address without that one value, so a chip works without JavaScript, can be opened in a new tab and can be copied. With the script running, clicking one swaps the list in place like any other choice, and a click with a modifier key opens it normally.
What the chips say
The value’s own label, for attributes, categories, tags, brands and stock status. For price, the heading and the range in the shop’s currency: Price: from 15 when only a minimum is set, Price: up to 40 for a maximum, and Price: 15 – 40 for both.
Clear all
It goes to the archive’s own address. The sort order is the one thing it keeps, because a shopper who chose “sort by price” and then cleared the filters did not ask to lose it.
Read a filter address
Paste the address of a filtered shop page and read it in plain English. Nothing you type leaves this page.
Screen readers
The chip list is labelled Active filters and each chip announces Remove filter and its name. The number of results is spoken after each change, from a status line that is hidden on screen.
Where the chips live: at the top of the set, above the filters, with the count of them in the badge of the mobile Filters button. If nothing is chosen, neither the chips nor Clear all is drawn, so an unfiltered set shows only its filters.
